My little guy will no longer be "little". He is fast moving up to become a boy because he is about to lose his FIRST tooth!!!!!! It's his lower right front BABY tooth. When Nico announced the news two nights ago, guess what??? I cried!!! Mateo, used to frequent display of emotions, just laughed and asked why I was crying. I'm SOOOOO not ready to let go of my baby!!!! (Can you imagine what a wreck I'll be when he goes off to college?????) And also, because I haven't bought the tooth fairy kit I had wanted on Etsy!!!!
He is very proud. And the good thing that'll come out of this is that he just might stop sucking his thumb!! Yesterday in the morning, as soon as I wake him up, he tells me that he didn't suck this thumb at all during the whole night!!
In other news, here's a little Mateoism:
The boys were deciding which soccer player they were going to be. The were both wearing their Barca outfits. Mateo, obviously, is Messi. And he was telling Santi he could be Chavez (is there a Chavez in the Barca???), and this is what else he said:
"Santi, you can be Chavez. Not the one who TALKS, and TALKS and TALKS on the radio that is the President of Caracas, but the REALLY GOOD soccer player Chavez!" When he said "TALKS" he changed his voice and dragged the words out in monotone! It was really funny!!

Boyisms
Life with little kids is so much fun because of their delicate innocence. How they view the world is precious. So before I forget here are some recent "boyisms":
Mateo comes running into the kitchen, fighting some superhero in his mind. He stop and he says, "F****** bad." I get chills down my back. Immediately, a thousands thoughts start rushing into my head: should I say something, should I ignore it??? But then, he asks, "Mommy, what does f****** bad mean?" All I could answer is: "Where did you hear that?" Mateo: "Evita said it at school today." And so Nico intercepted and said something to the effect that we don't say that word and that's it. He hasn't said it again, but I know that I need to read up on how to deal with kids swearing.
That same night, Mateo sits down to dinner and says: "God is home." Oh boy!!! Again I ask him where he heard that and again he answered Evita. That Evita girl is quite a character!!!
And now on to Santi:
Yesterday on our way back from school, very seriously he asks me, "Mommy, why does Dago always want to be a dog?"
Two days ago, when he sat down to dinner, he wasn't too convinced with his pasta. And he tells his father, with puppy dog eyes, "Daddy, I've been eating all week! I can't eat any more."
Today, we were rehearsing what he could say about his Buzz Lightyear outfit he had chosen for the Spirit Day at CIC. Santi was saying that Potato Head and Rex were Buzz's friends, that Buzz said, "To Infinity and Beyond," and that in Toy Story 3 "he spoke in Espanol." I asked him, "Where does Buzz come from?" hoping Santi could add something like "Buzz came in a space ship from another planet." But no, he says, so matter of fact while he rolls his eyes, "From Toy Story mommy!!!"

Happy Birthday Santi!!!
El guero, our cheeky, nosy-nosy, filou, Monsieur No, Santi, Santiago Max turned 3 ... only three little fingers in his little hand, but he has such a BIG personality inside that bubbling body. We celebrated like usual, with a party at home and another one at school.
At home, I had all his favorites: hummus, "shushi", cherry tomatoes, cupcakes. His big present was a red bike which he immediately wanted to take downstairs to the park to ride. At school, I invited the pre-Nursery (some of his old pals, who because of the age cut couldn't move on to Nursery, are there; and of course, Ms. Lucia and Ms. Rosa also had to be part of the celebration) and Nursery classes to lunch at school. The celebration was short and simple. I catered cheese empanadas and brought some sweet potato fries, cherry tomato salad, watermelon and cupcakes from home. The birthday boy was extremely shy at first, but as soon as he sat down to eat next to his buddy Silvana, all was good. After lunch, they broke the Lightning McQueen piñata. And then went back to their classrooms to take their nap. So sweet!
Unfortunately, my camera died on me that very day (and hasn't resurrected)! Luckily I had the iPhone, so while the quality is not the best, at least you get an idea of what a special day that was for our little guy. Thank you to all who called and sent him messages. He was really happy!

California Part 2
On the plane . . . .
"Sprinkles!!!"
Disney: a BIG mistake! Note to self: NEVER EVER go alone again or until the boys can patiently wait in line.
Mateo can't believe his eyes: Darth Vader made his appearance!
The weather was delicious in California. That meant a lot of water play for the boys, whether it was in the pool, at the beach or in the front lawn!
During one of daily UNO playing evenings
Warming up for the Watermelon Run
Watching the other runners ...
"I'm soooo excited Tio Cux!!"
"I want to go with Tio Cucu!!!" Major meltdown when he saw his brother and Tio Cux take off running. Santi did the run with Mommy ... not as exciting!
