Here's a recap of some funny and touching moments with Mateo:
1. We are walking home from school, chatting about what he did, who he played with, etc. Mati sees a man on a motorcycle on the sidewalk and says, "Hola!" The man doesn't have time to answer him because Mateo, with hands on his hips tells him very seriously, "La acera es para las personas que caminan, no para las motos!" (The sidewalk is for pedestrians, not for motorcycles!)
2. Paty: "Mati, time to eat!"
Mati: "What are we eating?"
Paty: "A Greek salad ... with feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, olives, capers ... stuff you like!"
Mati: "And what are we doing after?"
Paty: "We are going to wrap presents for the children who don't have daddies and mommies."
Mati: "And why? Why don't have daddies and mommies?"
Paty: "Maybe because they died ..."
Mati: "Ooh. And why did they die?"
Paty: "I don't know Mati. Let's eat."
Mati: "Ayyyyy Mami, eating is boooooring!!!! I want to play!"
Paty: "Okay Mati, if you don't eat, then you won't be able to take the presents with me to daddy's office."
Mati: "I want to give the children a mommy and daddy, and I'll share Moose with them and I'll tell Santa Claus to bring them a bicycle!!"
At the end, he ate two spoonfuls worth of salad, he helped wrapped one present before his attention span spun away, and off we went to Nico's office to deliver our presents.
3. I see Mati with his index finger in his mouth. I assumed he was biting his nails and told him that he shouldn't do that because then he complains that his fingers hurt. He looks at me and with a mischievous smile, says, "Ay Mama, no me estoy comiendo las unas! Me estoy comiendo los mocos!! Quieres??" (Oh Mommy, I'm not eating my nails! I'm eating my boogers! Do you want some?)
