San Miguel de Allende

Our stay to Mexico started with a road trip to San Miguel de Allende, a picturesque town in central Mexico, about 4 hours north of the D.F.

Embracing the cascarones tradition. "You mean I get to break an egg on someone's head??? Really?????"

Note: It's a tradition in Mexico to make cascarones (confetti/flour/sparkle filled eggs) during Carnival. The fun is derived from breaking the egg over someone's head, allowing the filling to spill out. Traditionally, the filling shower brings good luck and fortune.

"Aaaaahhhh, I like to break the eggs, but I don't want anyone breaking them on me!!"

Rubbing his head ... he was brave for the first couple of egg breaks, but after that, he would run away or simply start crying when an egg was broken on his head.

Even Santi got eggs broken over him.

And his brother was quick to clean his head from the glitter.

This is the first one of the "HOLA" series. The boys ran to this window after lunch and greeted everyone that passed by on the street.

A special pedestrian!

I felt like a war time reporter when taking these pictures. Groups of older kids were having an egg war, throwing the eggs at each other and running around the plaza and cathedral.

"Vamos, todos contra el Gringo!!"

Mateo was always so gentle when breaking the eggs that many times he didn't succeed in breaking the shell.

Mexico Preview

A sneak preview of our trip to Mexico ... land of enchiladas and refried beans (= delicious food!!), of friendly people and gorgeous cities ... I'm soooo ready to live there again!
