Mateo is off from school from Easter Break, so we decided to have a special playdate with his yogi (just for you Chris!!) friend, Isabel and Santi's girl friend, Ava. We went over to my friend Patrycja's house for an indoor picnic, since, yes, the rain is back!!! There were five happy kids playing all over the place and laughs were heard all around. We finished off the playdate splashing in the puddles!
Black eye and scarred forehead discussing how best to deal with their babies' tantrums!

"Little Red Riding Hood" as Mati described his brother when he saw him.

Ciao, ciao!

Tio Cucu Visits

My brother, Tio Cucu, came down for a wonderful visit. Though I picked him up all feverish, sweaty and shaking and his body never adjusted to the high altitude, we still had a fabulous time with him, especially the boys. Despite his health issues, we did a bit of sightseeing with him, and I think he got a good taste of Colombia. It was great to have him over ... Tio come again any time!

Below are some pictures from our walks in Bogota and from Cartagena. Some more pictures from the pool will come later. Enjoy!

Struggling, really struggling to breathe, in Monserrate

Tio, you can't catch me! (Santi was sweaty beyond belief!!!)

Old man Nico and Chris ... what is HE doing????? Is he snorting Colombia's precious import??

Santi loves to copy what Mateo does, literally copy everything so when he saw Mati and Daddy running around, he had to join in.

Pacifier Free Santi!

Oh no!!! The differences in parenting have kicked in!! Determined not to have another sucker, thumb or pacifier, in the family, I weaned Santi off his "pepe" about three weeks ago. It was a sort of gradual process and he suffered a bit, mostly at night. He would whine for about five minutes (sometimes longer!!) and I could hear him asking for "pepe" but he adjusted fine and is now a pacifier free baby!! On the other hand, which is ironic I think, I can't get around to disciplining Mateo strictly enough to stop sucking his thumb. I got a special "nail polish" in California, which is basically some cayenne pepper, designed to help children kick the habit. But I always chicken out: I think and think and end up convincing myself that it's not time yet! (Wow, as I write this I realize just how silly it sounds!!)

So, why is this all ironic? Because we baby Santi ... I don't know if more than we did with Mateo at this age, but certainly more than we do Mateo now. He still feels small and is super cuddly with me and when he talks he simply melts my heart; he is so cute when he tries to imitate his brother, when he runs, when he dances or jumps, or when he simply asks me to be held "Mimi mama, mimi.". I feel that part of holding on to Santi as a baby is a result of Mateo's growing independence and the fierceness in his personality lately, but that's a different story! For now, I'm celebrating a pacifier free Santi!!!

Soccer Saturday

Some pictures of Mati's soccer class a couple of weeks ago. I can't say he'll be the next Pele, but he's getting the hang of it ... I hope! Enjoy!
I'm running, I'm kicking ....
Plonk ... I fell!
But I'm back on my feet, dribbling, dribbling, dribbling ...

I'm a jaguar ... NO ... a puma, I can outrun these little fellows any day!

Ooooh, I need a break! (Puerto La Cruz style!!!)
No ball gets past me!

Stopped it!
P.S. QUE VIVA MEXICO!!!!!
After class, some fun on the jumpy house.

Mateoisms

I recently read Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Mateo. He is intrigued with evil vs. good and, like usual, death vs. life. We had this conversation yesterday:

Mateo: "Mama, if I go to Disney and I see Snow White and her (step) mom, and the mom changes into a wicked witch with her big nose and her cape, and if she gives me a delicious apple with venom, will I fall to the ground?"

Paty: "Mati, Snow White is a book. Someone wrote it and made up the story, it's not real."

Mati was CLEARLY not convinced because again he posed the question. If you can, imagine him moving his hands to further express or accentuate his point.

Paty: "Well, you know Mati, you shouldn't accept food from people you don't know."

Mati: "But what if the witch, with her magic wand, changes into a really nice mom and she gives me the apple with venom? Will I fall to the ground?"

Paty: "Disney doesn't let bad people in."

Mati: "But what if they don't know she's bad?"

Paty: "Well, if you go to Disney and you see Snow White's mom and she gives you an apple with venom and you eat it, then YES, you'll fall to ground. But don't worry, my kiss will wake you up right away."

Mateo: "Hmmmm .... okay mommy."

THE END.

P.S. He's so obsessed with the whole venom subject, that he now asks if what I'm serving for lunch or dinner has any venom. I put some aromatherapy oils in their bath and he also asks if that's venom. He cracks me up!
