Playboy

I saw Mateo the playboy in action today at a birthday party.   As soon as Lola walked in, fashionably late and dressed as Minnie Mouse, the party started for Mateo.  He immediately went over to her and started playing with her hair and caressing her cheeks.  She pushed him away.  Mateo tried again and since she pushed him once again, I told him to stop bothering her. So he simply went with another girl, Ada, and started touching her ear lobes, her hair, etc.  Ayayay, what does the future hold for me????

Flirting

What is it about men flirting???? How come they say the weirdest things when trying to impress a girl??? I witnessed Mateo's flirting style this morning when I dropped him off at school. He saw a classmate, Lola, at the entrance and was very happy to see her. He left my side right away and said to her: "Hola Lolita, estas bien fea." (Hi Lolita, you look really ugly.) If you had not seen how excited he was to see her, you would have thought it was just a mean comment, but he was jumping up and down, waving at her, showing her his car and trying to talk to her.

What did Lolita do? What all girls do: IGNORE him!!!! :)

Progress Report

Six weeks after Santi's birth and about a month before Mati turns the ripe old age of three, here's a quick progress report.

Santiago:

1. Still not sleeping through the night: much to my dismay, little "Kiko" wakes at least once during the night. Yes, I know, it's not too bad; he usually does 5 hours straight, but we are still far from establishing some sort of schedule.
2. Colic: this past week he has been suffering a lot from colic and long stretches of non-stop crying. Thursday was the absolute worst, nothing we did would stop him from crying. I was so desperate, I called his doctor, who very calmly said that it was colic and that I needed to be patient and give him lots of love. Easy for him to say, he didn't have a ballistic baby to calm down!! My back and shoulder were (are) aching from carrying him around in the Baby Bjorn, which was the only way to settle him and get him to sleep some.
3. Cooing: he has started cooing more and more and adding lots of smiles here and there.
4. Dislikes: the vibrating chair (does any infant like those things???).
5. Likes: eating and taking his bath

Mateo:

Mateo continues to be a model citizen and brother. He is absolutely wonderful and patient with all of us. He has minor jealousy episodes every once in a while, but otherwise is very understanding. To say he is happy at school is an understatement: he loves it!! He always says he wants to go back (although he enjoys his weekends at home, too!!!).

School has definitely had a positive impact on his self-confidence. The other day we met some friends at the park and this was the first time I saw him interacting with other children his age since he started school a month ago - what a difference!!! He played well with them and had a great time - no need for mommy!!

His imagination is fantastic, whether he's playing with his cars, running around the house, or playing with us. I love it!! He has finally discovered the joy of building and is all into building blocks and Lego (I can now see the emerging architect!! ;) ) And, a reflection of the influence school has had on him, he loves to read books to us: simple one-sentence dialogues to describe what is going on in the page --> very cute!!

(We have tried to upload for three days now a video of Mati singing but Blogger is having technical issues, so stay tuned for that!)
